Cheeky dream teams is an ongoing series celebrating female teamwork. This week, I'm highlighting Samantha Bee and her assistant Tzvia (my smart/funny/thoughtful friend that I get to brag about).
"That is the most amazing thing about women working with women. We don't only really listen to each other, but we want to hear each other too."
My favorite part of working with Sam is being in the car with her.
Riding in Cars with Sam (please don't steal my feature film idea) is an incredible window into who she is. Our conversations quickly jump from why Ivanka terrifies us, to the important of extra long pads, to whatever she heard on The Daily that morning. At the same time she's probably singing along to whatever song is on the radio that she loved in high school and chances are I've never heard of. Of course there's a lot of her saying "I should really come to this part of town more" and "that restaurant looks good" too.
She's treated me as an equal since the first day I came into her office and that's why these rides are so special. I know she takes me seriously in conversations and is interested in what I have to say. That is the most amazing thing about women working with women. We don't only really listen to each other, but we want to hear each other too. Except for the time I confided in her that I don't like fruit. She did NOT respect that.
Some facts about Sam Bee in case you were unaware:
- Was a correspondent on The Daily Show for 12 years, making her the longest-serving regular
- She is the first woman to host a late-night satire show
- In 2017, Sam was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time
Catch Full Frontal with Sam Bee Wednesdays at 10:30pm EST.
The Great American Puerto Rico* (*It’s Complicated) special airs tonight.
Tzvia was there. Watch it.
